Fleet managers can utilise the MyGeotab’s Software Development Kit (SDK), to customise the software to satisfy the specific fleet requirements. It eliminates the intricacy out of data collection and converts it into useful information that businesses can follow up on. It offers up to seven different languages to reach out other major international businesses. Its vehicle tracking software integrates simple features with an on/off selection. Fleet managers can head start by customising rules, helping them in measuring productivity, safety, fleet optimization, compliance, and expandability. When a rule is chosen, managers can select from a scope of dependable notification options, such as email and pop-ups to in-vehicle coaching and alerts.
There are many key features of Geotab such as advanced reporting that enables businesses to have their customised settings with ease. Driver behaviour management that equips in-vehicle feedback and training utilities for drivers. GPS vehicle tracking allows real-time tracking of the vehicles’ history with unique algorithms to provide precise information.
One thing special about Geotab is they do not sell straight to their clients. According to Tech.Co. (2018), Geotab associates with a reseller network to generate sales. This is distinctive among fleet management service (FMS) vendors which connect to customers themselves. Nevertheless, Geotab still devoting on the final product as they are in charge of research and development.
Geotab’s software has the flexibility to allow itself to be teamed with hardware options from other brands and vice-versa. This reflects the goal of Geotab: “to create solutions that meet fleets where they are, rather than locking them into inflexible products.”
Similar products such as TomTom WEBFLEET also share common features as Geotab. According to itracking (2017), TomTom has a wide range of products that might get overwhelming to customers due to overlapping functions. For Geotab, it is just simply a hardware and a software that customers need.
The pricing and plans of Geotab can provide a variety of prices due to resellers who are responsible for setting the retail price which is a con for Geotab. When it comes to TomTom, they have three different subscription options for customers to choose which is fair.

TomTom has an extensive customer service support that directly reaches out customers. Unlike most FMS providers, Geotab does not directly provide setup and customer support. Instead, it provides contact information for each customer’s “Authorised Geotab Reseller”, who can give technical support and training. Customers can locate their reseller by having signed into their MyGeotab account easily. The main Geotab website provides abundant documents about product and installation.
I feel that Geotab is a wonderful software that takes fleet management to the next level with the integration of smart technology and software. It greatly improves the efficiency of fleet management whereby managers can have full control over their drivers by monitoring driving behaviours as well as allowing businesses to make possible expansions in a shorter amount of time. One thing to improve on for Geotab is to make official pricing plans to prevent resellers to mark up the price.

Final Reflection

My learning experience in Technical Communication is quite fruitful. I believe that I have learned some skills that help me in improving my communication skills and writing a product evaluation. There are some goals which I have yet to fulfill which is my presentation skills, I still have problems with impromptu speech when giving a presentation which does not require one to memorise a script. I can feel that I have a long way to improve my presentation skills since I have used to memorise a script and endless rehearsals which is similar to preparing a music exam recital or a performance. What I have learned from the showcase as an audience member, is about the different styles of presentation from the six presenting groups. From what I have watched during the presentation, one thing that stands out is the usage of the video in the introduction before introducing the team members.
